On Saturday, a group of our hurlers headed up to Catholic University to play some friendlies to close out the year's playing season. The team was filled out with some supporting players from both UNC and The Citadel who had come up to play, and our new jerseys sponsored by Burnside Hydraulics got their first day out! The first game started off pretty chilly, with a stiff breeze and a cold rain, making for numb hands and few clean catches. As the day went on, the sun eventually showed its face again, much to everybody's delight. In the end, the Gaels/UNC/Citadel team ended up playing two full games against CUA's young hurlers.
The CUA team, though all fairly new to the sport, showed some real progress in team play, making short, smart passes, and good runs into space. The Gaels' Dan Maher has been coaching the team for the past year, and his tutelage seems to be doing the Cardinals some good at least! Always good to see local universities developing strong teams. As always, the CUA team brought out a small, but very vocal supporters group as well which contributed to the fun atmosphere of the day.
Also a big thank you is due to Rob Rayburn for refereeing all the games, despite the wind and the cold!
